What I did during 2020 - Carol Stockman

Do you recall returning to school after the long summer break and the teacher posed the question “what did you do in the holiday” Then the question became “can we all write an essay on it”. The good old, bad old days.

As we hopefully and cautiously near the end of Covid restrictions and a return to a “new normal” we have already started asking each other “what have you done during Covid”.

There are those who have discovered yoga, pilates, purchased a Peloton, followed Joe Wicks (well who wouldn’t), baked banana bread and sour dough, created immaculate gardens, decluttered homes and wardrobes, decorated and then there is me – I took photographs.

I use photography for my own mental health and wellbeing. My camera is one of my best friends. Like a dog I take it for a walk (and yes it has a name!). It brings joy to my life and encourages me to be “in the moment”. Taking photographs focus’s my mind and quietens the noisiness within it. I simply get lost in it.  Psychologists apparently call this state of mind “flow” and as we get older “flow states” are harder to access. They are moments of restoration but in our busy lives we don’t make time for these moments…………. to see the colour of the sky, the waves lapping on the shore, the fragility and detail on a small flower, the reflections on a village pond, the texture on the bark of the tree, the red breast of the robin and the raindrop on a rose petal.

Take a look below, do you see what I see?

So, what did you do during Covid (in less than 300 words!). Be happy and in the moment.
