North Cotswold’s Job Club Update

The outbreak of COVID-19 resulted in widespread disruption for the North Cotswold’s as it has across the country. To help support those that are facing uncertainty and require support into employment, the GEM project (which is jointly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund), GRCC and P3 Moreton continued with their physical job club online to continue to support individuals in these unusual times.

Now, four months on from when the online club started, we wanted to provide an update of how it’s gone. The digital approach means we have managed to reach individuals that faced different barriers to employment. It has removed barriers such as transport (to attend physically) and numbers (we could only have 8-10 in the room due to size of the room.)

The club has hosted a number of speakers that have offered a plethora of advice and knowledge to attendees. Speakers from GEM, Christians Against Poverty, the Churn Project and Volunteers from Cotswold’s Friends have ignited the online job club. When the club was held physically speakers were harder to come by due to transport and availability.

Not only has the job club benefitted attendees in a professional capacity, but also in a social one. It has offered social interactions (digitally) in numbers that would not be permitted and individuals have noted it is one of the more social activities they do in a week due to the isolated nature of the North Cotswolds.

The job club is there to help attendees and it has resulted in employment, self-employment, volunteering and education as some of the outcomes of the club.

If you would like to attend, job club takes place every Tuesday from 3-4pm via Google Meet. You can access this via this link: https://meet.google.com/kqo-vddh-cia
