Creating Greener Communities

GRCC are pleased to announce a county wide climate change event focused around how communities can become greener and what individuals can do to help mitigate climate change.

The event is set to be held on 30th October 2019 from 1:30pm to 4:45pm at Stroud College, Stratford Park and it’s not to be missed. There are only 70 places available and so it is essential that you book early so that you don’t miss out.

The event is aimed at voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisations and parish and town councils. We want to enable communities to learn more about what is happening at strategic levels with regards to climate change and what they can do at a community level to play a part in reducing their impact on the environment.

Essentially, by hosting this event we hope to help create greener communities by ensuring that individuals know what they can do to mitigate against climate change.

There will be workshops and guest speakers during the event with a networking opportunity towards the end of the day. There will also be a chance to trade ideas, inspire and motivate each other about what is already being done and what more we can do.

The workshops that will be available will be:

Powers: GAPTC

GAPTC will be showing what powers town and parish councils have to combat climate change.

This will include:

·         Stewardship of environment & air quality.

·         Links to planning and green infrastructure.

·         Neighbourhood Development Plans.

This is sure to be a fascinating but useful workshop and one that we’re all excited about.

Preparing your community for Electric Vehicles

The UK has a plan in place for all cars to be electric by 2040 and so as communities we must prepare for this. There is also a vision from Charge My Street to have an electric vehicle charging point within a 5 minutes’ walk from every home.

This workshop from Gloucestershire County Council and Charge My Street will firstly, talk about how the council is preparing for this and will then talk you through stages of preparation that your community will need to go through for this change and discuss how you can get the infrastructure ready to charge your street.

Climate Change Action Plans

GRCC will talk you through how communities can create a Climate Change Action Plan and what support GRCC could provide. We want to encourage wider change in organisations and communities and help them take the lead against climate change.

Have you been wondering what steps your community needs to take to mitigate against the impact of climate change but also how we can shape what the future will hold? This workshop will advise you on how you as an individual can do this but also what you can do at a community level.

Resilience Planning

GRCC Environment Lead, Helen Richards, and Civil Protection Officer, Jessica Howell, will guide you through how your community can improve its preparedness for and resilience to emergency situations such as extreme weather events which are predicted to occur more frequently due to our changing climate.

This will include:

·         The wider emergency response structure

·         Community Emergency Planning

·         Resources and support

Upon booking, you will be asked to choose which workshop you would like to attend. The guest speakers will be announced nearer the time but we have some exciting names lined up already.

Please let us know if you would like to attend by filling out our booking form and keep an eye on our social media for more information in the lead up to the event.
