About us

GRCC is an independent charity that works with Gloucestershire’s communities to inspire, enable, and deliver community action. We work across the whole county to help communities to create thriving, sustainable places for local people to live and work in. Our Community Development Team provide capacity building support, information, advice and training to VCSE sector groups and organisations of all shapes and sizes in Gloucestershire. We work under the umbrella of ACRE (Action for Communities in Rural England) as part of a network of 38 Rural Community Councils across England. Reporting directly to DEFRA, we jointly aim to create thriving, inclusive, economically active rural communities where people have access to the services that they need.

Our story

Our charity, Gloucestershire Rural Community Council, was founded in 1923, "for the purpose of encouraging and fostering village activities... that make for the happiness and elevation of the community." Although we now work in urban and rural areas, the core of what we do is still to improve community life and enable community action in Gloucestershire.

Our work

Our work spans a very wide range of areas, from supporting village halls and community buildings, just as we did in 1923, to more 21st century concerns such as Digital Equity. You'll find all our projects listed on our Projects page, and feedback from people and organisations that we've worked with in our Testimonials section.
