Annual Physical Health Checks for People with Serious Mental Illnesses

Everyone who has a severe mental illness is entitled to have a physical health check at their GP Practice every year.   It's important to have this annual check-up, because people with severe mental illnesses also have an increased risk of developing physical illnesses.  Having an annual physical health check means  there's a better chance of any physical health problems being spotted early on, when they are simpler and easier to treat.

GRCC runs a project on behalf of the NHS to help people with severe mental illnesses in Gloucestershire to have the annual physical health checks that they are entitled to.

If you have a severe mental illness, we will write to you on behalf of your GP, encouraging you to have your annual physical health check.  We can give you support such as booking the appointment for you, if you wish.  We can even come to the appointment with you, if you would like us to.

The annual physical health check usually takes about 45 minutes.  You can read more about it on the NHS website here, and there is also a video below which explains more.
