Community and Neighbourhood Planning

Working together to keep your community alive, vibrant and sustainable is the best way to ensure its future in these challenging times.

Communities across the county are developing different types of community-led plans.  These plans help shape the community's future and provide evidence for development and funding to meet their needs.

By developing a plan you’ll help your community to have a stronger voice on local issues and increase potential to work in partnership with local agencies. It gives people the chance to get involved in their community, a chance to share skills, talents and ideas and a fantastic sense of belonging and achievement; but it can be tricky knowing where to start.

How GRCC can help

GRCC supports communities in getting active and creating their plan by providing guidance at each stage of the process. We provide:-

• Independent, impartial and expert information and advice
• Training in consulting your community and translating responses into actions
• Links to potential partners and organisations to help move forward your plan's actions
• Reassurance, practical help and the back-up of working with a trusted local organisation

We can help you decide which form of community plan best suits your needs. We’ll help you identify the main strengths and issues in your community and explain the pros and cons of each form of community-led planning.  In most districts you can get this initial advice and support free of charge, including a workshop/presentation session in your community, through our service level agreements with district and borough councils.
