Living Independently & Employability Skills Training

GRCC, Cheltenham Borough Homes (CBH) and the GEM project have come together to run a training course aiming to give people the skills the live independently and learn employability skills.

Through local programs run by Cheltenham Borough homes, such as their Job Club and participants of the GEM project, which is jointly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund, the local individuals helped plan and design the course to match their own needs, helping to empower the local community to plan an accredited skills workshops, designing the structure and modules of the ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) Course.

Daniel Gale, a GEM navigator based at GRCC and who championed the courses creation said, ‘This project is a perfect example of the GEM Projects participants lead approach. From the GEM Participant council to the individuals planning their own GEM Journey, participants are empowered to be at centre of their GEM experience. This project is another example of this wonderful approach.’

An example of an issue identified b the local community identified has been the need for discussion of Loan sharks, due to a reported rise in incidents in the local area in recent times. This was brought forward by CBH, by bring in their money advice team to discuss this and other points that have been raised, during the applicable module.

The course will be run in 3 hour slots each day from 24th February - 28th February 2020 1:00 - 4:00 pm at Oakley Resource Centre.
