Barbara supports the volunteers who form the management committees of a wide range of village and community halls throughout Gloucestershire, offering specialist support and advice. She chairs the South West Community Buildings Advisers Group and runs district wide network events for those who run community buildings. Her professional career started in the ‘Front of House’ management of theatres, conference venues and community buildings in different parts of England.

Support and advice is offered over a range of issues, including; business planning; charity law; funding applications; health & safety including fire safety; licensing laws; community consultation; sustainability issues; insurance; governance; day to day management; volunteer management; financial aspects; policies and procedures; employment issues; update project build advice. Barbara may provide training e.g. when new legislation has been introduced; and the role also entails acting as representative or voice for community building management committees during consultations from government and other national organisations on issues affecting community buildings.
Recently Barbara has also become involved in supporting Community Asset Transfer projects based within the county.
Barbara is a SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative) awarded through the Institute of Leadership and Management, accredited adviser, offering business planning support and advice to voluntary organisations throughout Gloucestershire. She also offers general funding advice to organisations as well as specialist advice for village/ community buildings.
Barbara brings her experience of working with a range of voluntary organisations to her roles as the GRCC Funding Advice Co-ordinator, Chair of the Gloucestershire Funding Advisers Network and Chair of GEORGE, the South West Funding Advisers Network.
