Joint Core Strategy (JCS) Consultation
There is a current consultation about the Joint Core Strategy (JCS) which affects residents and communities in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Boroughs and in Gloucester City.
The JCS will be THE KEY DOCUMENT for determining future development across these 3 districts to 2031, including employment and housing development and climate change/environmental considerations. The 3 planning authorities are working together on the Strategy.
There are many stages to developing a Core Strategy and the authorities consult with residents and communities at certain points:
1. Introduction of the Local Development Framework and initial consultations, which were held between November 2009 to July 2010.
2. Outline JCS information produced by councils and Part 1 consultations which were held from June to August 2010.
3. Working up Preferred Options by councils and related consultation.
4. Subsequent decision making and further consultation on Preferred Options.
5. Further decision making and consultation prior to submission of the JCS and examination by the Secretary of State.
6. Adoption of the Core Strategy by the 3 Councils (Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury). The target date for adoption is January 2014.
The JCS is currently at the stage of ‘Developing Preferred Options’ (Stage 3 above) and this is the consultation document that members of the public and communities are being asked to comment on by 5pm on 12th February 2012.
