The Parent and Community Support Service (PCSS) project
GRCC is proud of its reputation for supporting communities through change and we have teamed up with PATA to provide a dedicated Parent and Community Support Service (PCSS*) to community organisations and schools which are taking over children's centre buildings and activities in Gloucestershire.
As part of a re-shape of Gloucestershire County Council's early years provision, targeted support for families with children aged 0 to 11 is now based from 16 Children and Family Centres, with provision from the other 30 children's centres being run by local communities. In many cases Gloucestershire County Council is transferring the running of a children's centre building to schools and community groups.
GRCC has been working with groups interested in this asset transfer since October 2016, helping them to consider their options and to produce a robust business case to demonstrate that the children's centres will be financially viable and well managed. We continue to work with them to grow and develop business ideas and a sustainable future. GRCC is helping them to identify sources of both grant and commercial funding and to explore links between community run children's centres and businesses.
PATA is concentrating on working with parents and volunteers in the community to equip them to deliver activities such as Stay and Play, Play and Learn, and other sessions for parents and young children in their neighbourhood. Everyone wants to give their children the best start in life and PATA training, through the PCSS, makes learning freely available to parents and groups.
If you're interested in setting up a group in your area or finding out more about the PCSS, make your initial contact with the PCSS team through Max Comfort at email@example.com or Andrew Ruff at firstname.lastname@example.org, or on 01452 528491.
