Minchinhampton Intergenerational Allotment Project
This six week themed project involves a number of key partners including Minchinhampton Parish Council, Minchinhampton Youth officer Andy Brookes, Steve Miles Senior Youth Officer, Barbara Piranty, GRCC’s In Touch Project Manager, NJ Landscapes, Year 8 and 9 pupils from Thomas Keble School and older residents of Minchinhampton.
This aim of this project is to bring together the two generations and help to bridge the ‘gap’ by focusing efforts in a directed way using the growing of food in a nearby allotment together with other aspects covered during the six weeks – healthy eating, diets, wartime food, tasting, recycling etc. Sessions run regularly on a Monday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm at Minchinhampton Youth Club.
The group consists of 8 older residents of Minchinhampton and 8 pupils from Year 8 and 9 of Thomas Keble School. The six week project is taking place over the months of April to June 2008 and centres around Minchinhampton Youth Club and the allotment across the road. Each two hour themed session involves a talk related to the subject of food and time out on the allotment checking the growing crop until the harvest in Week 6.
