GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Project employability course for parents

GRCC has received funding from the GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Project's Extra Mile Fund to run an employability course for parents who are thinking of returning to work once their children have started school.

The Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Project aims to engage with and support individuals in Gloucestershire who are currently dealing with circumstances that are potentially causing barriers to work and move these people closer towards education, training, volunteering or work, including self-employment.  This programme is a unique partnership of community based organisations including GRCC, managed by Gloucestershire Gateway Trust on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council.

The employability course will run from 9.15 to 11am starting on Tuesday 16 January for six weeks and will be held at Oakwood Primary School in Cheltenham.  It will include CV writing as well as job search and interview skills, as well as the opportunity to meet local employers.

Staff from Cheltenham Borough Homes will be providing the training.  Amanda Wragg and other Navigator Developers will be supporting participants and engaging them with the GEM Project.  If you are interested in taking part, or know someone who might be, contact Amanda amandaw@grcc.org.uk

The GEM initiative is enabling people who may feel out of touch with the world of employment to access support to find work.  For more information, please visit glosgem.org.
