Growing Great Futures

GRCC is delighted to be working with the 39 children’s centres in Gloucestershire through the Growing Great Futures project. This project aims to increase parental involvement in decision making and in service delivery at the centres.

Parents are already involved in many ways and we are working with children centre managers, staff and parents to build on this good practice. Here are some examples:

Parents in the Dursley Treetops and Wotton under Edge centres run toy   libraries
Parents in the Parliament Children's Centre in Stroud run their own   group for parents with twins.
Parents from Kaleidoscope Children's Centre in Kingsholm take part in   regular discussions at the children's centre about how they can make   improvements and build on strengths.
Parents from Bartongate Children's Centre run a community cafe - a   great chance for parents to meet, build skills and help each other.

Many children’s centres have 30 to 40 volunteers working within them and have a variety of support and accreditation systems that they use to acknowledge the role of volunteers.

  • Cheltenham - There are 7 children’s centres in the Cheltenham locality all run by the newly formed Gardner’s Lane & Oakwood Federation
  • Cotswold - There are 4 children’s centres in the Cotswold locality run by 4Children
  • Forest of Dean – There are 5 children’s centres in the Forest of Dean locality, run by Barnardos
  • Gloucester - There are 10 children’s centres in the two Gloucester localities. The 4 Gloucester North centres are run by 4Children and the 6 Gloucester South centres are run by Barnardos
