What do people think of the toolkit
Gloucestershire Emergency Management Service has liaised with GRCC, and they said
- It is extremely user friendly, not overwhelming
- Makes the development of a plan look achievable in easy steps
- Provides downloadable templates to allow for the preferences of the group formulating the plan, with completed examples too
- Contains explanations, hints and tips, and encourages personal, as well as community resilience
- Includes experiences of dealing with various emergencies from a community perspective and lessons learnt
- Plus information about linking into support from local authorities and other organisations
What do communities think?
Following the Lechlade event Cllr Sue Coakley has been talking with volunteers, Town Council, Emergency Services, Cotswold District Council and Gloucestershire County Council to gain feedback and then review the Plan. “We learned some useful lessons: we need to adapt our Plan to include the additional Out and About and Welfare roles which are featured in the GRCC toolkit so that we make better use of all of the resources available rather than spreading ourselves too thinly. We also need to keep an eye on changes to contact numbers so that these are always up to date.
Although no-one ever wants an emergency to happen, it did give us the opportunity to work with the statutory authorities and Emergency Services, and for us all to learn from the experience.”
All rural parishes in Gloucestershire should have received a copy of the GRCC ‘Your Community Emergency Plan Toolkit’ which gives a framework to help communities develop a plan. For more information please contact Marilyn Cox at GRCC: marilync@grcc.org.uk 01452 528491
